Deck refinishing, repair and new decks in Arvada, CO

Before you tear out that deck, call Pete.

Deck Tune Up & Construction sands, seals, repairs and rebuilds decks in Arvada, Golden, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood and Westminster, and builds new ones in natural wood and composite. Owner Pete Grosskreuz has been at it for more than 30 years.

Save the deck you have, or build the one you want.

Sometimes a deck only needs sanding and a fresh seal. Sometimes the joists underneath have gone soft. Pete does both kinds of work, and he builds new decks from scratch.

Sanding, sealing and refinishing

The tune-up the company is named for. Pete sands weathered boards back to clean wood and seals or stains them so real wood looks like real wood again. Bob and Anne in Conifer have had him back three times in 18 years to sand and reseal the redwood deck he built them.

Repairs and rebuilds

Rotten joists replaced, new railings and handrails, old decks reworked. When a deck is past saving, Pete tears it out and builds it again. At the Richard house in Wheat Ridge he took out an old hot tub, demolished the deck and rebuilt it with new handrails.

New decks, pergolas and more

New decks in natural wood or composite, pergolas and gazebos, spa enclosures, railings and tiki bars. Pete spent 20 years building nothing but new decks, mostly for hot tub dealers and landscapers. One Arvada homeowner got a new composite deck with a ramp built to fit their needs.

My company has referred customers to Pete or Deck Tuneup for many years, when they are needing any kind of deck or pergola work done whether its new construction or just a tune up.

Michelle Beyer, owner of Timberline Gardens landscaping

About Pete

He started out building decks for hot tub dealers. The tune-ups came later.

Pete Grosskreuz started the company building fences, spa stairs and spa enclosure cabinets for hot tub dealerships. For the next 20 years he built new decks, mostly through those dealers and through landscapers.

After 9/11, almost nobody was buying hot tubs or putting on new decks, and a lot of his contacts moved on. So he started the Deck Tune Up side of the business: sanding and sealing existing decks, replacing rotten joists and putting on new railings.

He still builds new decks too, in natural wood and composite, along with pergolas, spa enclosures and the odd tiki bar.

What customers say

“Since then Pete has been up three times to sand, and reseal our lovely deck… we have enjoyed using it quite a lot.”

Bob & Anne, Conifer. Pete built their redwood deck 18 years ago.

“He was on time, friendly and knowledgeable. He had a solution for our problem. His price, service and final work was fantastic.”

Questions people ask Pete.

Can my old deck be saved, or does it need to be replaced?

Sometimes the deck you have can be saved. If the frame is sound, sanding, sealing and replacing rotten joists can bring it back. If it's past that, Pete tears it out and builds it again, as he did on the Richard deck in Wheat Ridge, the Samuels deck in Westminster and the Phipps deck in Lafayette.

Do you work with composite decking or only wood?

Both. Pete builds new decks in natural wood and in composite. The ramp and deck he built for a homeowner in Arvada is a composite build.

What areas do you serve?

Arvada, Golden, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood and Westminster. Past jobs have also taken Pete to Lafayette, Genesee and Conifer.

Do you build pergolas, spa enclosures and tiki bars?

Yes. Pergolas and gazebos, spa enclosures, railings and tiki bars are all part of the work. Pete got his start building spa stairs and spa enclosure cabinets for hot tub dealerships.
